Updates to the Museum Mobile wiki on 12 July 2009

Hello all,

I want to let you know about a few new developments on the Museum Mobile wiki.

First, HUGE congratulations are in order for the Dallas Museum of Art, whose opensource multimedia tour is now live in the museum! With the development led by Ted Forbes, they are the first Museums to Go project to launch and I know we’ll all learn a lot from their experience and code! You might want to check out the interesting little conversation that has started on the Dallas project page about location-based services in multimedia tours – a subject always guaranteed to generate a heated debate!

The Dallas solution is very similar to the San Jose Museum of Art’s mobile program, and I interviewed Chris Alexander and Ted Forbes about their work for the Museum Mobile podcast series. You can subscribe to the podcast’s RSS feed and get updates on new posts and podcasts on Twitter @nancyproctor

Secondly, I’ve added three new sections to the wiki:

  1. Products & Services: this section is for providing information on mobile products and services, and contact details for providers.
  2. Reviews: a blog page for tracking reviews of audio tours, multimedia tours and other mobile programs. These are intended to be independent reviews; if you’re a museum or cultural site, you can create a project page to describe your mobile solution here: http://wiki.museummobile.info/museums-to-go/projects If you’re a vendor, you can add pages on your products and services at the link above.
  3. Contributors: a page for us to know and contact each other; feel free to add yourself or email your info to me and I’ll put you on the page.

Thanks for all your input to the wikis so far! If you ever have ideas, questions, or difficulties with either, don’t hesitate to contact me.

With best regards,
Nancy
