Opensource Mobile Solutions: Omeka & Fluid
Posted by Nancy Proctor on | September 7, 2009 | 1 Comment
Having brunch with Titus Bicknell and Sayoko Knight from Toura today, the conversation inevitably centered on mobile developments for the iPhone & beyond. The question came up of what the difference is between the two leading opensource solutions currently in development, Fluid Engage and Omeka, so I thought I’d tweet it to those most involved in both projects for their comments. Here’s what I got back:
- @sleonchnm: Probably, capacity for cross-platform development and mobile browser access. Not everyone has an iPhone.
- @foundhistory: My sense (and what we have been discussing w/ them) is Fluid will provide UI elements that Omeka can use for its mobile apps.
- @jessicao: mobile FE skinning system is web-based mobile goodness. It is complimentary and fits nicely with other mobile solutions.
- @sherah1918: @foundhistory & @sleonchnm summarized well. Fluid will work w/ Omeka, nothing yet to show. Will update when there is.
So that’s the news on Omeka & Fluid Engage as of today. We look forward to hearing more as both projects advance! Feel free to send further questions to the respondents above or through comments on this page.
