Player Population & Take-up Rates
Some notes (feel free to enhance and organize these into a better structure):
- Here is a great source of information on how to decide how many players you need in your museum based on attendance and expected take-up rate; also information on Apple’s iPod Touch pricing, from Eric Longo.
- An interesting question from Jenna Fleming at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts about impact on take-up rates when museums go from audio to multimedia tours. My reply was:
- “My instinct is that you won’t experience an uptick in take-up rate because people don’t take the tour because of the technology. What you will (hopefully) experience is greater satisfaction with the tour because it is now richer. You may even find a slight decrease in take-up, because the traditional audio-tour taking audience can be very conservative and intimidated by these new-fangled machines. But, thanks to the iPhone people are much more comfortable with mobile multimedia now, so that factor is probably going away.”
- What do you think? Some museums who’ve recently made this transition and can probably help us with real data are:
- Louvre
- British Museum
- Tate
