Mobile Fundraising & Volunteering
Mobile Volunteering
‘Micro-volunteering’ is a new arena being pioneered by The Extraordinaries, among others. (The podcast of my interview with CEO, Jacob Coker, is here.) Volunteers can donate small amounts of time to help non-profits with tasks like tagging images, checking addresses, or translating text through their web-enabled phones.
Mobile Fundraising
It is finally possible for non-profits to receive donations by text message, without the network operators taking the lion’s share of the donation. Here are some resources:
Target Marketing Group webinar, “Raising Awareness – and Money! – with Mobile,” presented by FundRaising Success:Â Slides & notes on the Smithsonian’s Web & New Media Strategy wiki.
Give by Cell: an agent for the Mobile Giving Foundation.
Giveabit iPhone App being developed by @jkaz: “Givabit will be a new and *free* iPhone application that features charities on a daily basis allowing users to discover worthy causes and easily contribute micro donations to them.”
